The HBCU Hope Project

We Are Here to Honor Legacy, Empower Students, and Strengthen Families.

Our Story

The HBCU Hope Project was born from a recognition that Historically Black Colleges and Universities are more than academic institutions — they are cultural anchors, centers of pride, and incubators of leadership for the African American community. While the demand for holistic support is undeniably higher among Black students, our focus is not on deficit but on strength. We believe that by offering relationship training, alternatives to abortion, and wellness services within the HBCU context, we are not only meeting urgent needs but also honoring the legacy of resilience these campuses embody. Our story is one of hope, not condemnation — a commitment to walk alongside students as they navigate defining moments, ensuring that the strength of the Black family and community continues to flourish through the halls of these historic institutions.

Mission & Vision

Our Mission

To mobilize the HBCU community to support students confronting complex pregnancy decisions. Through mobile pregnancy care units, “Love Smarter” presentations, compassionate support, and practical resources, young women are empowered to pursue their education and future with confidence.

Our Vision

A future where HBCU campuses are known as places of hope—where unintended pregnancies are in steady decline, and decisions that affirm life have increased. Students are equipped with relationship intelligence, fostering better relationship choices that, in turn, lead to stronger families and communities.

Core Values & Philosophy

Our Founder

Mike Goss, a minister and lifelong advocate for compassionate, life‑affirming support, has spent nearly five decades as a serial entrepreneur. For the last twelve, he prayed for an opportunity to channel his years of entrepreneurial experience into a social venture that could bring lasting change to the lives of others. That prayer gave rise to FundLife.me and the HBCU Hope Project — initiatives designed to break the cycle of crisis pregnancies on campuses and to strengthen families through practical assistance, spiritual care, and emotional support.

Mike is often asked why he chose to address an issue that many overlook. His answer is simple: inequality. He believes it is a glaring injustice for society to prioritize the right to abortion while neglecting women who are struggling to avoid it. His work is an effort to correct that imbalance — creating funding streams and compassionate programs that support students at critical crossroads. As he explains, “We fulfill the Great Commandment—loving our neighbors—by supporting students with compassion, care, and practical help. Through this, we offer them a new path forward: abundant life.”

HBCU Hope Bus Administrators

Sylvia is a pioneering leader in the pregnancy care movement with nearly four decades of service. Guided by faith and purpose, she opened her first pregnancy care center 39 years ago, laying the foundation for a mission that has since grown to four centers and impacted more than 60,000 lives.

She was the first to integrate medical services into the pregnancy care industry, recognizing the critical need for accessible healthcare among uninsured communities. Sylvia’s long-held vision was to bring these services directly to the campus of Texas Southern University, a goal that has now been faithfully realized.

Janet Lemelle

She began this ministry as a small, home-based effort rooted in faith and a calling to serve pregnant teens in Waller County, Texas. Guided by prayer, perseverance, and God’s provision, that vision steadily grew into a 5,000-square-foot facility that has now supported and served more than 20,000 clients.

For many years, she prayed faithfully for the opportunity to bring mobile pregnancy services to young women and couples at Prairie View A&M University. Those prayers have been answered, and she is now able to operate the mobile unit on the very campus she entrusted to God years ago.
